Kuku FM is one of India's leading audio streaming platforms, offering a vast library of podcasts, audiobooks, stories, and original audio content in multiple regional languages. With millions of users consuming content across episodes, storytelling series, songs, and gamified subscription tiers, the platform demands a high degree of functional reliability across both web and mobile.

When we engaged with Kuku FM, the team had no structured QA process in place. Releases were going out on developer timelines with only unit testing as a quality gate. There was no test coverage framework, no release sign-off process, and the broader team had not yet aligned on the full value quality assurance could bring beyond basic bug catching.

Our approach

Our engagement

We built the QA function at Kuku FM entirely from scratch. That meant writing over 1,000 test cases covering the full range of functional flows, episodes, podcasts, songs, storytelling series, and the platform's gamified subscription features, across both web and mobile. Every release cycle included full regression, sanity, and smoke testing, with complete sign-off responsibility resting with our QA engineer.

No build went live without a green signal, release notes, and a risk report for stakeholders. We also owned data migration testing, a critical and often underestimated piece of platform reliability. The process gave decision-makers the actual data they needed to make confident go/no-go calls, instead of relying on developer intuition alone.

Beyond execution, we invested real time sitting with the development team to shift how they thought about quality. Unit testing alone wasn't enough, and getting that message to land required building trust, not just pointing at bugs. From there, sprint planning became more structured, backlogs more focused, and releases far more predictable. The engagement ended with a formal acknowledgment from the client for the outsized value a single, focused QA function had delivered to the business.

01

Functional and regression testing

We designed and executed a comprehensive test case library covering all of Kuku FM's core content verticals, episodes, podcasts, songs, storytelling, and gamified subscription features, on both web and mobile. Full regression cycles ran with every release, supplemented by targeted sanity and smoke suites to catch critical path failures early. The coverage framework we built grew into the team's primary quality reference, enabling consistent, repeatable testing across all feature areas.
