Experience Abu Dhabi (visitabudhabi.ae) is the official travel and tourism platform of Abu Dhabi, operated by the Department of Culture and Tourism. It serves as the primary digital destination for millions of global visitors, featuring attractions, events, dining, hotels, itineraries, and travel planning tools across multiple languages and regions.

The platform is built on Sitecore CMS and delivers content across a complex ecosystem of environments, locales, and device configurations. As the platform grew in scale and content complexity, the need for structured, repeatable QA processes, capable of handling CMS-driven content, API integrations, and automation, became critical to sustaining release quality and user experience.

Our approach

Our engagement

Our QA engineers embedded into the Experience Abu Dhabi team to build a structured, scalable testing practice around their Sitecore-powered platform. The primary mandate was to improve release confidence across a platform that serves global audiences, in multiple languages, on multiple devices, and across multiple live environments simultaneously.

One of the earliest and most impactful contributions was resolving the CMS content dependency problem. QA had frequently been blocked waiting for Sitecore content to be published before testing could begin. Our team developed familiarity with CMS workflows, coordinated directly with development and content teams, and introduced backend validation steps so testing could proceed without delays. This alone significantly improved the velocity of release cycles.

We also introduced a systematic automation layer using Playwright, transforming high-effort manual regression runs into repeatable, reliable automated flows. Combined with structured participation in grooming sessions, sprint planning, and real-time defect tracking in Jira, our engagement elevated the overall QA maturity of the platform, enabling the team to ship with greater confidence, even under tight release timelines.

Functional and UI testing

Our team executed comprehensive functional and UI testing across the Experience Abu Dhabi platform, covering attractions, events, itineraries, dining, and hotel modules. Testing spanned multiple environments (DEV, UAT, Production), multiple languages, and a wide range of device configurations and screen resolutions. Exploratory testing techniques were applied alongside structured test cases to surface edge-case defects that scripted testing alone would miss.
