Docyt embraced automated testing for a smoother, faster app

We joined the Docyt team with a clear mandate: build and maintain an automated testing programme for a financial management application serving businesses across mobile and web. The initial scope of 150 test cases was well-defined, but as with most live products, the scope evolved as features were added. Our team of two automation engineers and one lead was built to absorb that evolution without compromising delivery commitments.

The automation infrastructure required careful engineering from the start. The app's performance variability was causing timing-related failures in test scripts, a common challenge in financial applications with complex data flows and asynchronous operations. We resolved this by systematically adding static and fluent waits throughout the automation suite, transforming a flaky test pipeline into a reliable one. In parallel, we categorized every test case as automatable or non-automatable, directing engineering effort where it would have the most impact.

Test case lifecycle management was another critical component. As the product evolved, legacy test cases were becoming stale, creating noise in reports and making genuine failures harder to identify. We introduced formal version control for test cases: deprecated scenarios were retired with explicit version records, keeping the repository current and reports accurate. Despite the shifting scope, every milestone was met on time. The daily collaboration cadence, proactive communication, and consistent code quality gave the Docyt team the confidence they needed to ship without hesitation.
